How To Measure For Carpet In 4 Easy Steps

To save yourself from being overcharged for carpet materials, you need to measure the room in question accurately. Below is our easy 4 step process on measuring a room for carpet.

  1. Draw a diagram of the rooms which need carpet. You can do this easily on your computer. You don’t need anything to detailed, a simple drawing will do.
  2. Measure each room needing carpet and write down the measurements on your diagram. We recommend you round each measurement to nearest 0.5 foot mark. For example, if the room is 12 feet 3 inches long, then round it up to 12 feet 6 inches. This makes sure that you have enough carpet.
  3. Make a list of all the measurements and then multiply the length by the width of each room. Then add them up for a total amount of square footage.
  4. Add 5% to the total amount of square footage, which makes allowances for any extra carpet needed to complete the job.
