Buying second-hand furniture

Over the past few years, you cannot fail to have noticed the number of second-hand shops, antique shops and shops selling re-cycled furniture which have opened up on the high street. Although big furniture stores like IKEA sell very affordable and stylish furniture, if you are looking for something different then scout around some of your local antique shops. You may find something totally unique and a little different at a very reasonable price. Antique shops are often full of small occasional tables, card tables, glass fronted cabinets and bureaus and desks plus occasional upholstered armchairs or sets of wooden spindle backed dining chairs. You might find that your new purchase is not in the best condition but if it is made of wood then you will probably find that the problem can be fixed with some gentle sanding or glueing. If you are not keen on the dark wood colour, then consider painting it yourself in pastel shades or in a colour which matches the colours in your room. Before you know it, your furniture could be looking as good as new and the envy of your friends who will be wondering where on earth you bought it.
